Met Ball 2013: Recap

May 7, 2013
Okay, so (and seriously, feel free to disagree):  I was a little disenchanted with this year's theme. Regardless of how many high-fashion, "punk" layouts grace the pages of my favorite glossies, it still conjures (for me, at least) images of Doc Martens, stringy hair, and pilled flannel.  Eeps.

But then viewed the Met Gala 2013 photos.  And I kiiiinda got over it.  Some were questionable (Madonna) kooky (SJP, natch) and predictable (Queen Bey. Yep, I went there). But, not only do I now have a better idea of what I'll look like if I dye my pixied hair blonde (thanks, Anne!) but there were still some stunners.

Behold: my favorites. Punk, re-imagined and easily digestible.

Spring Has Sprung!

May 5, 2013
..and we know what that means:

 - an onslaught of checked-out library books
 - spring/summer street fashion (usually quite chic and fun)
 - outdoor beer gardens & warm-weather brews
 - long runs in Ann Arbor
 - portabella mushrooms on the grill
 - windows down, music up

..YAY!

Also, I'm insanely excited about the 2013 Met Gala this week. Thus, I leave you with this:

Burglar Stripes

Mar 11, 2013
Oooooo yeah.

This post started out as a nod to the Marc Jacobs S/S 2013 show, but Maestro Jacobs wasn't the only one who brought big, bold, and kinda-beautiful stripes to the runway.

Honestly, I'd feel like a total goon wearing summa these in 'real life' but I would not put it past Forever 21, Topshop, Zara, and even Target to bust out the burglar duds.  And for fifteen buckaroos...I'd shell out for the risk!  Comfort zone, be damned.

Battle of the Back Necklaces

Mar 8, 2013
I didn't notice this until recently, but Jennifer Lawrence wasn't the only one rocking the back necklace:  Anne Hathaway did, too!

I'm torn. I think Anne's Prada dress needed something else, but I'm not sure this was it; I appreciate Jennifer's effort, but I think this Dior was much better suited for an elegant, non-backwards pendant.

Would you dare this for an everyday look?  If I could figure out where this baby comes from...

...erm, yeah!

Happy Friday!

The Casual Vacancy

Feb 28, 2013
Work commitments had me west-coast bound this week, but that was okay with me:  lots of plane rides means lots of reading time! Woo! (And, yep, I still carry around hard copies of books with me.  My poor little tablet is collecting dust as we speak).

My library hold on  The Casual Vacancy came in right before I left, so this was the perfect opportunity to bite into a new novel.

2013 Awards Season Rundown: Top Looks

Feb 27, 2013
Hey there, world!  It feels like ages since I've stepped foot into my little creative haven.  Life has certainly been the best kinds of busy - and while I expect that to continue, one always owes it to herself to make time for the things that she loves.  So, here I am!

And what a better way to kick it off with a little red carpet coverage?  I was a little underwhelmed by what I saw last Sunday night (which surprised me - it was the grande finale of it all...and at least get the boob darts right...right?!) but, as with every season, there were some lovely numbers amidst the sheathed and swathed elite.  My top picks below:

Kerry Washington, Golden Globes, in Miu Miu

Kerry Washington, SAG Awards, in Rodarte

Marion Cotillard, SAG Awards, in Dior

Nina Dobrev, SAG awards, in Elie Saab

Anne Hathaway, Golden Globes, in Chanel

Honorable mentions:  Jennifer Aniston at the Oscars in Valentino (I wish she had belted it!) Rihanna at the Grammys in Alaïa (pasties, please?) and Taylor Swift at the Brit Awards in Elie Saab (I love when T busts out her sultry side).

Who were the hits and misses in your book?

SIENNA IN ERDEM!

Jan 13, 2013
(I really hope I'm right, since I JUST turned on the TV for the first time today and that's the first dress I saw!  I still need to watch her as Tippi.)

Lots of upcoming travel & an impending non-work, outside-project deadline will likely mean light blogging over the next few weeks, but I hope to get back to my little haven as much as I can! So many shows to review (heck, I still have pre-fall sitting as draft post), red carpet fashion over which to gawk, AMAZING reads to share...slowly but surely :)

I'm also extending the deadline for my HCB Starbucks Giveaway until January 30th. Don't forget that comments and extra follows get you an extra entry apiece!  (A HUGE thank you to everyone who has entered so far, and I apologize for making you wait for da goods a bit longer.)

Happy Golden Globes-ing, (and Girls-ing, and House of Lies-ing, and Sean Lowe-ing),

Amy
